The Ultimate Red Velvet Cake Recipe Made From Boxed Cake
- 1 box of Red Velvet Cake Mix
- 3 eggs
- 1 stick of melted butter
- 1 1/4 cup of warm milk
- 8 ounces of cream cheese room temperature
- 4 cups of powder sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 stick of butter room temperature
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
In a mixing bowl add the red velvet cake mix, the melted butter, and milk together and mix for 5 minutes or until well combined.
Then add each egg to the cake mixture one at a time and mix between each egg.
Grease and flour your entire 9 inch or 7 inch cake pan.
Soak your Wilton Bake Even Cake Strips with water and add it around your pan and make sure that the fit is tight. It should be tightly under the edge of the pan. (if you don't have the bake even strips skip this step.)
Add the cake mixture to the cake pans make sure they are divided evenly.
Place the cake pans in the oven for however long the red velvet cake box says. The time should be on the back of the cake box. It usually takes about 30 to 35 minutes to bake. Insert a toothpick or fork in the cake after 30 minutes if it comes out clean then they are ready.
Let the cakes cool for 30 minutes or put them in the refrigerator to cool faster.
Take the cakes out the pan and sit them in the refrigerator or a wire rake. You should have even layers if you use the Wilton Bake Even strips. If not you will have to level your cakes yourself.
Cream Cheese Frosting Instructions
In a mixing bowl combine your room temperature cream cheese and room temperature butter and mix for 10 minutes.
Add your vanilla extract to icing and mix until well combined.
Then add each cup of powder sugar one cup at a time and mix for between cups. After 5 minutes you should have soft cream cheese frosting that holds its form but easily spreadable.
On a cake board or cake holder add some cream cheese frosting to the middle and add your first cake layer.
Add a generous amount of frosting in the middle.
Then add your second layer of cake.
At this point you can finish frosting your whole cake with the cream cheese frosting and eat 🙂 or add a crumb coat and refrigerate the cake for 30 minutes and then do the frosting recipe again and add another coat of frosting to your cake.
Make sure to put the cake in refrigerator or a cool climate to keep the cream cheese frosting from going bad quick.
